Livingroom

Billboard project / site-specific exhibition

Livingroom is a billboard-project of six by nine meters that was placed in the neighborhood of Moerwijk in The Hague. A neighborhood were people from different cultures are living together which doesn’t always work out well. Nowadays the local authority is demolishing the neighbourhood to build new houses, thereby forcing many people to leave their homes. Vestia and Stroom Den Haag asked me to make something for the people of Moerwijk. I created the project Livingroom. I visited people with different backgrounds in their neighborhood and collected objects from their houses. In an empty apartment I then put all the objects together and build a universal Livingroom from them, including wallpaper and a vinyl floor. When the local people are forced to leave their houses, the Livingroom will mark that they once lived there.
